Be patient with me as I unpack a suitcase of thought bubbles. As I write I endeavor to have clarity.
I'm not angry or sad just contemplative.
I am a student of the bible, a sacred text written well over 3000 years ago. For the record,I do believe in its truth; Spirit of the living God inspired and "In the beginning was the Word...." #Allofthat...
If you have ever read it, there's one thing for sure, it encompasses history, prophesy, letters etc. Other legitimate historical texts can support and testify of its legitimacy. Between the pages are great, good, bad, evil, ugly and deplorable stories. Major/minor prophets, kings, queens, scribes, priests women, men and children and consistent unveiling of their respective narratives. In fact, reading some chapters will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.Whew!🤯😳 My point is... it's revealed. There is no hiding or pretending it didnt happen. It is not forgotten. I am glad there is a written account and the Spirit of God continues to teach me all things, yep even the Race stuff. Me, I start with Fear/reverence of God..and guess what stuff becomes clearer, sort of like when you adjust the lens on a camera.
As we read, we remember.
From King D summoning Bathesheba and having his way with her then having her husband killed. There's Eli confronting his off the chain sons and their wickedness.
And who could forget Judah sleeping with his daughter in law because he thought she was a prostitute. In each we read about the grimy not for entertainment sake but to understand the point of healing, freedom, restoration and reconciliation.
What's my point
Why is it that we refuse to face the truth about the USA, the great and good maybe sure, at least we tell ourselves but not the bad, ugly and certainly not the deplorable? Folks call it revisionist history and chastise and lash out at those who unearth and remember. Have we considered they have been disenfranchised and voiceless. I'm convinced it's fear that keeps truth telling at bay. This is the same nation, a very young one of just under 250 years old that "claims" to uphold "some" biblical principles yet wishes to silence voices, continue to perpetuate status quo and conveniently forget. Thank you Dominique for our wonderful conversation today. I am convinced that most folks see racism and racial oppression as a people of color issue that is to be pitied and empathized. What if you learned as a beneficiary of racism, there is no such thing as indifference, that you too are impacted because healing is your portion. That you too can be broken by not recognizing the significance of dignity, honor and respect to all of humanity.
